What is not covered by a Medicare Part D plan?

Medications that are administered at the hospital or at a doctor’s office will not fall under Part D.  Instead they will be considered for coverage under Part A or Part B.   Some examples would be chemotherapy received at a facility, shots received at a doctor’s office for macular degeneration, and injectable osteoporosis drugs.  The following are not covered under Part D:  drugs that are not on your plans formulary, drugs prescribed for anorexia, weight loss, or weight gain, drugs used to promote fertility, erectile dysfunction drugs, drugs used for cosmetic purposes or hair growth, prescription vitamins, mineral products, and non-prescription drugs.
